About PGM
Portable Graymap
The grayscale member of the Netpbm family: uncompressed pixels after a short text header. Use it to feed grayscale images to computer vision and image-processing code that reads Netpbm.
About DDS
DirectDraw Surface
Microsoft's DirectX texture container. It usually stores GPU-compressed data (the DXT or BCn formats) with mipmaps, so a graphics card can load it without decoding. Convert to DDS for game textures and mods; convert from it to view or edit a texture.
