About TIFF
Tagged Image File Format
A container from Aldus, first released in 1986 and now owned by Adobe, that can hold multiple pages, high bit depths and lossless compression such as LZW or ZIP. Scanners, print shops and archives use it widely. Use it for print work and archived scans where no quality can be lost.
About DDS
DirectDraw Surface
Microsoft's DirectX texture container. It usually stores GPU-compressed data (the DXT or BCn formats) with mipmaps, so a graphics card can load it without decoding. Convert to DDS for game textures and mods; convert from it to view or edit a texture.
