About DDS
DirectDraw Surface
Microsoft's DirectX texture container. It usually stores GPU-compressed data (the DXT or BCn formats) with mipmaps, so a graphics card can load it without decoding. Convert to DDS for game textures and mods; convert from it to view or edit a texture.

PC Paintbrush
ZSoft's raster format from PC Paintbrush for DOS, compressed with run-length encoding. It was common in the late 1980s and is rarely made today. Convert from PCX to open DOS-era graphics in modern software.
