WebP
Google's image format, released in 2010, with a lossy mode based on the VP8 video codec, a lossless mode, alpha transparency and animation. A lossy WebP is usually smaller than a JPG of similar quality. Use it for images on websites, where every current browser supports it and smaller files load faster.
About HEIF
High Efficiency Image File Format
An MPEG container standard (ISO/IEC 23008-12) from 2015 for single images and image sequences. It can hold HEVC, AV1 or other codecs, along with depth maps and bursts. Convert HEIF to JPG or PNG for apps and sites that cannot read it.
